New Ford Explorer in MonroevilleConfident Inside and Out

A trusted SUV is a great way to take your family around town or on your next vacation together. For decades, the Ford Explorer has offered drivers in Monroeville, Pittsburgh, and Murrysville dependable performance and convenient cargo room.

To see what the latest version of this classic SUV can offer you, Day Ford put together this Ford Explorer review.

Ford Explorer Engine

The Ford Explorer gives you three choices for what powers it under the hood: The first engine is a 3.5L V6 engine with Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) and gets up to 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque.

The second engine is a little smaller but has an intelligent, efficient design. It's a 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4 engine that can generate up to 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The EcoBoost® design helps it get up to an EPA-estimated 27 MPG highway.

The final and most powerful engine is a 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 that can produce up to 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.

All three of these engines work alongside a 6-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission. The SeclectShift® gives you the freedom to manually control your gear shifting without a clutch.

Ford Explorer Cargo Room

What's great about having power in an SUV is the ability to carry lots of cargo. The Explorer is equipped both inside and out to carry everything you need.

Its powerful engines give it a maximum towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds. Inside, it has a large trunk space with 21 cubic feet of space.

If you need to create more room, fold down the third row 50/50 split fold-flat seat to give yourself 43.9 cubic feet of space. To accommodate even more, there's the second row 60/40 split fold-flat seats. With both rows down, you'll have up to 81.7 cubic feet of cargo room.

Whether you've got a full car of passengers, or need to carry longer items like kayaks or your Christmas tree, a roof rack up top let's you tie them down for a secure and comfortable drive.

Ford Explorer Safety

There's seating for up to seven people inside the Ford Explorer, and plenty of safety and driver assistance features to protect them.

You'll be in control no matter what you encounter with the Intelligent 4WD with Terrain Management System™. This allows you to adjust the drivetrain to any condition and maintain traction.

Inside, there's seven standard airbags, including third-row side-curtain airbags and a Safety Canopy® System with rollover sensor.

There's also extra stability for smaller passengers in the back with Lower Anchors, as well as Tether Anchors for Children, available in both the second and third rows.

A group of driver assistance technology features help prevent accidents before they occur. These include:

  • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) with Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Lane Keeping System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control & Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support
  • Rear View Camera with Backup Assist Grid Lines

The combination of these features, the stable drivetrain, and seven airbags have helped the Ford Explorer earn a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
